Washington, D.C. – NSBA has named John Hexter, Owner of Hexter Consulting in Pepper Pike, Ohio as one of its outstanding finalists for the 2013 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award. Hexter was recognized alongside four other small-business owners representing various industries from across the country. The award ceremony took place on Monday, March 18 in Washington, D.C.

“As an active small-business advocate for the past 30 years, John Hexter has played a pivotal role in helping to shape policy both in Ohio and nationally,” stated NSBA President Todd McCracken. “He has raised awareness on many critical issues ranging from regulatory reform to health care.”

Hexter has been a fixture in small-business advocacy circles, specifically serving in various leadership roles with the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) in Cleveland as well as NSBA. He was elected as a delegate to the 1986 and 1995 White House Conferences on Small Business where he helped craft a comprehensive small-business agenda which has driven some of the most important small-business reforms in the last few decades.

Routinely lobbying state and federal officials on issues of tax fairness, health care parity and regulatory restraint, Hexter is a recognized and outspoken champion of small business. He has testified before Congress and served as the Ohio representative for the Region V Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act panel. Hexter has run various small firms throughout his career and brings to the table a unique and varied expertise on the key issues facing a variety of firm sizes and industries.

“John has a keen eye for advocacy and never lets any opportunity pass to talk to lawmakers about the importance of small business,” stated NSBA Chair David Ickert of Air Tractor, Inc., in Olney, Texas. “Whether in an impromptu hallway meeting or testifying before Congress, he is always fighting for small business.”

NSBA also recognized: Raymond Arth of Phoenix Products, Inc., Dr. Raymond Jardine, Jr. of Native Hawaiian Veterans, LLC, Michael Canty of Alloy Bellows & Precision Welding, Inc. and Socorro Harvey of NVision Solutions.
