Washington, D.C. — Marilyn Landis of Pittsburgh, Pa., was elected chair of the National Small Business Association for 2008. Landis, a long-time NSBA member, steps in to lead the organization during a pivotal election season.
Landis’ background as a SBA lender, and most recently as president and founder of Basic Business Concepts, Inc.—a firm providing CFO level services to small business—will serve NSBA and America’s 26 million small businesses well. Through frequent trips to Washington, D.C., Landis has testified on behalf of NSBA on myriad issues, and worked closely with lawmakers on important small-business reforms.
“Marilyn’s keen understanding, both first-hand and from a lending perspective, of what it takes to start, run and grow a small business is a tremendous asset to our organization,” said NSBA president Todd McCracken.
Landis has been an active member of NSBA, holding various leadership positions throughout the organization. In addition to serving as NSBA chair, Landis is also chair of the SMC Business Councils in Pittsburgh, one of NSBA’s regional affiliated members. Throughout her career, Marilyn has worked for three of the largest SBA lenders in the country, securing financing for income properties, construction projects, manufacturers, restaurants and hotels – handling loan amounts ranging from micro-loans to $22,000,000 loans.
“I am honored to chair an organization with such a long, proud history of standing up for America’s entrepreneurial spirit,” stated Landis. “2008 promises to be an exciting year, from the presidential elections to the state of our economy, and I look forward to continuing the fight for small business through my leadership of NSBA.”
Since 1937, NSBA has advocated on behalf of America’s entrepreneurs. Reaching more than 150,000 small businesses, NSBA is proud to be the first national small-business advocacy organization in the United States.
