On September 8 at 1:00 p.m. eastern, NSBA will host a brief and informative teleconference discussing the new and expanded IRS 1099 reporting requirements. Based on a little-known requirement that was included in the recently-passed health care legislation, beginning in 2012, businesses will be forced to file a 1099 report for ANY goods or service provider with whom they spend $600 or more per year—even if they are a large corporation.
This means you would have to file a 1099 report if you spend more than $600 annually with companies such as United Airlines or Staples!
Today, small businesses have to file on average 10 1099 reports. Under the new law, that would skyrocket to 86. Even more concerning: this provision could greatly hamper business-to-business transactions as firms look to ease the new requirement by consolidating business purchases. This will give a huge advantage to big-box companies over small businesses.
The Sept. 8 teleconference will connect you with D.C. policy insiders, NSBA leadership, and small-business tax experts who will give you background on the expanded 1099 proposal, discuss the outlook for repeal, and tell you what it could mean for your business.
This teleconference is a quick and easy way for you to stay informed and get the latest policy insight on the fight against this extremely problematic new requirement.
