NSBA Holds Teleconference on Health Care Law
June 30, 2010

Today, June 30, NSBA held a teleconference discussing the recently-passed health care legislation and how it stands to impact small businesses. The second in a series of targeted teleconferences NSBA is offering, NSBA connected call participants with policy and benefits experts from across the country.

The guest speakers included: Jeffrey Van Winkle of Clark Hill PLC in Grand Rapids, Michigan; David Stetler of Stetler Associates in Cleveland, Ohio; Scott Keefer of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) in Washington, D.C.; Bill Lindsay of Lockton Companies, LLC in Denver, Colorado; and NSBA staffer Daniel Jones.

During the call, the guest speakers highlighted the key provisions that will affect small businesses, namely, the small-business health insurance tax credit, the ability to grandfather health insurance plans, and ongoing efforts to reign-in costs. Also addressed on the call was the provision that would require new and vast 1099 reporting requirements which poses a major burden for small businesses.

A significant portion of the teleconference was dedicated to addressing the questions of participants on the call. Many of these questions--and their answers--are posted on NSBA's Health Reform Today and Tomorrow Web site. NSBA members unable to participate on the call can  visit this site and read the FAQ and the Timeline for Implementation for additional details on how the health care law is likely to impact their business.

Stay tuned to NSBA's Weekly Advocate for announcements on upcoming teleconferences.
