Each year, NSBA hosts a group of small-business owners in Washington, D.C. for our Washington Presentation. During the two-day event, entrepreneurs from across the country hear from policy experts, elected officials and members of the administration on the key issues that matter most for small business.
This year, the Washington Presentation was held May 26 and 27 for nearly 200 small-business owners. The event was kicked-off with the Annual Lewis Shattuck Advocate of the Year Award Luncheon, followed by a high-level White House Briefing and another internal briefing from NSBA leadership on the key legislative issues for which the delegation would lobby their members of Congress.
On the second day, the Washington Presentation delegation headed up to Capitol Hill where NSBA hosted a Congressional Breakfast during which several Senators and Representatives addressed the group. For the remainder of the day, the small-business owners set out to meet with their elected officials and lobby them on key NSBA priorities.
Throughout the event, NSBA presented the 2010 NSBA Small Business Stars with their awards, a recognition given to members of Congress, the administration, their staffs and members of the media who have gone above and beyond in advocating for pro-small-business issues.
Also during the Washington Presentation, NSBA released the report, “Squandered Opportunities and Misplaced Priorities: Why Small Business is Too Big to Fail,” detailing some of Congress’ and the administration’s largest missed opportunities to address key small-buisness issues
This edition of the Weekly Advocate will provide you with detailed reports on the various events and award presentations held throughout the Washington Presentation.
