Small Business Congress Begins Today

NSBA’s 2012 Small Business Congress kicks off today on Capitol Hill inWashington,D.C.with a Regulatory Fairness Roundtable hosted in conjunction with the U.S. Small Business Administration Regulatory Fairness Board. At this roundtable, participants will have the opportunity to recommend regulatory issues that need addressing.

Then on Thursday, the Small Business Congress will hear from Maya MacGuineas, the president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, and director of the Fiscal Policy Program at the New America Foundation on the state of the national deficit and various proposals to address it. This high-level discussion will be followed by two general sessions with expert panel discussions on issues ranging from health care to taxes and the federal budget to access to capital. Thursday’s lunch will be hosted by Pfizer and will feature a Small Business Policy Roundtable with a panel of small business advocates.

The day will be capped off with NSBA’s 75th Anniversary Reception, hosted by UPS. Here, we will celebrate our 75 years of small-business advocacy and recognize the leadership and allies throughout the country and within the D.C. Beltway who have made us not just the country’s oldest, but the country’s best small-business advocacy group.

On Friday, participants will begin the work of debating the key issues and crafting an agenda in each of our four issue categories: Economic Development; Health and Human Resources; Taxation; and Environment and Regulatory Affairs. Finally, NSBA will convene its Annual Member Meeting Luncheon which will serve as the concluding event of the Small Business Congress.
