The National Small Business Association (NSBA) today released its 2011 Progress Report which highlights some major wins for small business despite ongoing economic difficulties. The nation’s longest running small-business advocacy organization, NSBA, which operates on a strictly nonpartisan basis, has been instrumental in some of the most critical small-business victories of 2011. Those legislative and regulatory victories, combined with NSBA’s continued efforts to inform and educate on the small-business community will have a lasting, positive impact on America’s small-business owners.
“NSBA’s success in 2011 is a direct result of our dedicated and active members and leadership,” stated NSBA President Todd McCracken. “It’s good to know that pragmatism and bipartisanship can still get things done in a town that is increasingly lacking both.”
Under the leadership of 2011 Chair Larry Nannis, CPA, shareholder at Katz, Nannis + Solomon, P.C., NSBA appeared before Congress 11 times, submitted more than 13 formal comment statements and amicus briefs, addressed nearly half of its top ten priorities and continued to provide critical and widely-cited data on the small-business community.
A uniquely member-driven organization, NSBA’s members dictate the agenda and provide the kind of grassroots involvement that speaks louder than money can. Every two years, NSBA members have the opportunity to craft and vote on the organization’s Top Ten Priorities, and in 2011, four of those were either completely or partially addressed, including: repeal of the expanded 1099 reporting requirement; repeal of the three-percent withholding tax; a long-term reauthorization of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program; and a strengthened U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy.
“While we reflect on our past successes, we know there is still a great deal of work to do, from deficit reduction and tax reform to reigning in the cost of health care,” stated NSBA Chair Chris Holman, President of Michigan Business Network.com and CEO of The Greater Lansing Business Monthly. “We will not rest in our fight to advocate on behalf of America’s small-business owners.”
