Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate voted 81:19 to confirm the nomination of Linda McMahon as U.S. Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). NSBA applauds the Senate’s confirmation and looks forward to working with Administrator McMahon.

“Throughout her confirmation process, Administrator McMahon expressed a high understanding of the unique challenges facing America’s small businesses, and we believe her perspective will make her a strong advocate for small business,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken.

During her confirmation hearing, McMahon underscored the fact that she would not support consolidating the SBA with the Department of Commerce; would advocate for tax reform that includes pass-through entities—which comprise 83 percent of all small businesses; and planned to support a strong SBA Office of Advocacy with enhanced ability to affect the regulatory process.

NSBA is urging McMahon to serve as a strong voice in support of small business within the administration, to protect against any unintended negative consequences of actions or legislation that could impact small business. Specifically, NSBA supports the extension of SBA’s recent lending success through a broad array of lending packages, continued appropriate loan authorization levels, and efforts to make loans affordable and the lending process more streamlined.

NSBA also urges McMahon to support, and provide a great deal of independence for the Office of Advocacy and its Chief Counsel as they work to ensure fairness in regulations for small business. Additionally, McMahon should work to urge the administration to convene a White House Conference on Small Business, given the last one was held in 1995.

“We look forward to working with Administrator McMahon as she leads the SBA,” stated NSBA Chair Pedro Alfonso of Dynamic Concepts, Inc. in Washington, D.C. “Our members routinely vote for tax reform, regulatory restraint and access to capital as top priorities – all issues which Administrator McMahon is in a unique position to positively impact.”

Celebrating 80 years in operation, NSBA is a staunchly nonpartisan organization advocating on behalf of America’s entrepreneurs. NSBA’s 65,000 members represent every state and every industry in the U.S. Please visit www.nsba.biz or follow us at @NSBAAdvocate.
